On February 22nd, a premiere for upcoming movie “Thermae Romae” was held at Cinema The Space in Rome, Italy. The main cast members Abe Hiroshi, Ueto Aya, and the director of the movie Takeuchi Hideki attended this overseas stage greeting.

“Thermae Romae” is a live-action adaptation of Yamazaki Mari’s popular manga.  It’s a story of Lucius (played by Abe), a bath design engineer, who slips through time between Ancient Rome and modern Japan. The audience for this Rome premiere was almost all local Italian people, so Abe and Ueto greeted them in Italian.

Before the screening started, Abe told that fans he felt anxious if the Japanese sense of humor would be accepted by the Italian people present. However, despite his anxiety, once the screening started, the theater was full of laugh from start to finish.  The moment the end credits finished, the audience gave Abe and Ueto standing ovations with “Bravo!“.

Ueto went onstage once again after the screening.  She told the audience, “I see all of your face expressions are more sparkling than before the screening started, which tells me that you all enjoyed the movie. So I am very happy.”  Both Abe and Ueto also received a lot of compliments from the audience.

Audience members exclaimed with a big smiles, “We are really happy. It was worth coming all the way to Rome,” and other positive feedback.

“Thernae Romae” is scheduled to be released in Japan on April 28th.

A girl who can only live at night and a high school student who loves to surf as the sun rises…The two had nothing in common…Kaoru Amane (YUI), 16 years old, did not attend school but instead sang herself away every night after dark at a square in front of a train station with a guitar in her hands. She led a lifestyle opposite the norm, sleeping during the day and active at night. Kaoru was suffering from xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), an illness, which also might be described as the allergy to the sun, and was not allowed to be exposed to sunlight. The only motivation in her life was singing, which also was the only connection to the outside world. One day, an incident drastically changes her life…Kaoru returns home at 4:00 am, before sunrise. Outside her room window, she spots a high school student, Koji Fujishiro  (Takashi Tsukamoto) standing with a surf board in his hands. It becomes her routine to watch him and his friends come and go to the ocean every morning, before going to sleep.

On February 17th, Video Research Ltd. released various statistics about the usage of commercials in 2011. As usual, they concentrated their analysis on the three main regions of Japan (Kanto, Kansai, and Nagoya) and the five main commercial networks.

The results show that the amount of commercials slightly decreased in Kanto and Kansai, while in Nagoya the amount slightly increased. Moreover they recorded a sharp increase of commercials categorized as ‘Other Organizations’, which includes the ‘AC Japan‘ commercials that continuously aired after the Great Tohoku Earthquake instead of any other commercials. The number of commercials that are centered around ‘Other Cosmetics’, ‘Mail/Telegraph/Telephone’, and ‘Health Preservation Medicine’ also evenly increased their exposure in all three regions.

When looking at the talents used in commercials, it was actress Ueto Aya that claimed the top in all three regions, despite endorsing less companies than others. It’s her third consecutive year on the top for the Kansai region. In Kanto and Nagoya, young star Kato Seishiro stopped her from reaching a similar streak with his popularity in 2010.

Members of AKB48, especially Maeda Atsuko and Oshima Yuko, experienced the most explosive increase of exposure in commercials. The Kanto top 20 includes seven of their members, while the Kansai and Nagoya rankings even includes eight.

念願のエメです。まさかエメを生で観れる聴けるとゎ思っていなかった。
会場はもぅぎっしり。地味な曲なのに良く集まったっていうか皆病んでるゃなぁ（笑）
歌始まったけど、薄暗いバックライトに照らされて、前列からなのに表情とか全く分からない。インターネットライブと同じ謎な感じのまま。眼鏡かけてたけど表情見せないためのダテなんかなぁ？
生で聴いてやっぱりすごいΣ(ﾟДﾟ;)！ってか迫力に怖くなった。聴いた事がない不思議な声質で囁くような歌い方なのに、驚くほどパワフル。鳥肌を超える感じってこうゅう畏れにも似た感情になるのかも知れない。
案の定、会場ではすすり泣く声が聞こえてくる。
でもね、Aimerの曲って意外と泣くようなリリックではないと思うんだな。その世界観は、救われない感情の中で諦めにも似た言葉しか吐き出さない。けれども深い絶望の中でも一筋の光がさし込むような不思議な映像を伴って頭の中に描かれる世界があると思う。
Aimerの曲作りは全くわからないベールに包まれているけれど、言葉の扱いはとても繊細で丁寧。言霊を操っているということが伝わるアーティストです。
